R. A., FL:   "Being an aficionado of "History" it is obvious that the chief problem is (as it has always been) religion and it is obvious that one cannot legislate understanding on this subject. Since America is the highly publicized "richest and most powerful nation in the world", that too creates jealousy, which we know is a powerful emotion. I therefore would advocate a "low-key" policy, less discussion to the world about what we have. Also, charity is something that can be overdone, and simply encourages the recipients to wait for more, and more and more whilst being momentarily grateful, that turns into lack of respect over time.

Before seeking a solution to the overall problem, you must know in your mind the cause, and when you can determine that then you can take it from there."

T. N., NM:   Regarding Pearl Harbor & September 11, "...this also makes me sick. Because I witnessed the fall of tower one and the attack on tower two, I am more emotional about this event than pearl harbor."

A. J., NC:   Regarding the attacks of 9/11, "How can multiple commercial airliners be so easily hijacked?: How IS it possible??? Who ever did this, not to be rude or disrespectful, genius act knew exactly how and when to get it accomplished. I would like to talk to the person behind it all and find out how much time and organizing to accomplish the goal. So, if you see Mr. Ladin let him know I would like to talk to him before his life is finished.

S. J., AZ:   "We need to organize."

P. H., TX:   "What could long-lasting hatred and fear do to the psyche of the world? Will we overcome this and grow into a more tolerant society... or will we become comfortable with this new level of hatred and fear?"

S. B., IL:   Regarding the continued use of Argenbright Security at airports, "Why has this company not been replaced by now? I don't know, but it is one of the reasons I won't fly those that work for the company need to be trained properly and those that don't inspect hardly need to be replaced, not the company. Wages are factors that affect how one performs his or her job. Most of the workers don't have any college and are minority races. They will be stereotyped by the media and given the scrutiny as the culprits. I believe that with proper training and salary compensation many of these issues will dissipate."

M. N., MA:   "I think 9/11 was incredibly scary and painful. They were horrible acts that I could never in my wildest dreams imagine committing.  Patriotism is taking a toll however toward bigotry and I do not accept that.  Being a Patriot doesn't mean being a bigot towards what looks like the enemy."

M. K., GA:   "It is incredible that they can destroy so much... & they must be destroyed. They are delusional. Also, what we are taught effects our thoughts and we project those teachings either in a positive manner or a negative manner. To use the ills of one's philosophical views to kill in the name of one's God or ideals is silly and of childlike attitudes. All these leaders are having temper tantrums on a cause that if all parties sat down and rationally looked at we could have a stable peaceful living condition."

Anonymous, CA:  The following are one person's answers to a survey at www.OpinionCenter.com .

Question:  How will the terrorist attacks of September 11, affect your life?
Answer:    No effect.

Question:  How will the terrorist attacks of September 11, affect your country?
Answer:    It won't affect anything, except those selling debris from the World Trade
                Center might make some money.

Question:  How will the attacks of 9/11, affect the civilized world?
Answer:    Little real impact.

Question:  Do you have any thoughts to express?
Answer:    People have over reacted to the whole thing.  40,000 people die in automobile
accidents in the U.S. every year -- way more than the few thousand who were lost 9/11.

P. D., NY:    July 1, 2002, U.S. forces were accused of killing between 40 and 150 people celebrating a wedding.  It was alleged that during a military mission a U.S. plane dropped ordnance on an Afghani wedding party.  However, within hours it appeared that perhaps significantly fewer people were killed and that perhaps it was not an errant U.S. bomb that inflicted damage.

To paraphrase Dinesh D'Souza, if we were awakened one morning and heard that the Iraqis or Chinese had murdered 5,000 of their people, we would feel sad for a short time and return to our daily activities.  That is because we understand from yesterday's headlines that killing masses of civilians is what those regimes do.  But if we hear that U.S. forces accidentally killed 150 civilians in the heat of battle in the midst of war, critics are shocked, call for investigations and condemn the U.S. and its policies as inhumane.

The U.S. is held to an unrealizable higher standard by its critics, its enemies and its people.  Whatever the facts are about the wedding party body count and whose ordnance caused the deaths, everyone knows, but may not admit, that any civilians killed by U.S. forces were killed in error and every American regrets each lost life.

Victims of the War Against Terrorism reside in four groups: 1.) Enemy soldiers, 2.) Non-American Allied soldiers, 3.) U.S. soldiers, and, 4.) Civilians.  Each individual -- no matter his group affiliation -- who dies in this war should understand, as must each survivor of this war, that all deaths and all destruction are the responsibility of the terrorists.  It is the terrorists that choose to speak with unbridled violence, destruction and murder instead of rational thought and civilized interactions with Western Civilization.

What do you think?
1.)  Imagine if the Bush administration, CIA & FBI teams had prevented the attacks on September 11.  The media would be talking about 20 Middle Eastern men, "Mostly Saudi citizens, potential terrorists who had planned multiple attacks against civilian and government buildings on the U.S. mainland."  If the attacks had been thwarted, what would be happening today?
Lawyers & Rights groups would be screaming about the Saudi 20, their rights and illegal detentions.
The administration, CIA & FBI would be hailed as heroes.
The administration, CIA & FBI would be attacked as right-wing nuts abusing everyone's rights.
Most people would have forgotten about it by now.
2.)  What do you think about cooperation today amongst federal, state, local defense and intelligence agencies, emergency, fire and police organizations?
Decreasing            Decreasing            Is adequate today            Will never be adequate
3.)      I am: Female
