Could
it possibly be true that the politicians promoting this deal
truly fail to see and comprehend the potential openings it
provides for fanatics? |
|
Is
it possible US politicians promoting this deal fail to see that it
is not related to current UAE government policies which purportedly
make the UAE a US ally? Instead, this is about DP World's internal vulnerabilities. DP
World employs thousands of workers. It will draw many of those employees from the Middle Eastern region. It is likely that some
management, mid-level, and dock employees will be
against not only the US, but also against official UAE policies. There is
therefore a
reasonable possibility that DP World will unwittingly hire
individuals who are committed enemies of the US, the UAE, and the
civilized world. |
|
This
possibility is larger for a UAE-based company than for a British,
Italian or US-based company. This is why this deal should not be
permitted and US policy regarding port operations must change in the
post-9/11 world. |
|

Update
3/14: -- Americans
& Western civilization
must watch to see how Dubai owners of the port operation contracts
escape this issue without transferring them. Will they simply set
their price high enough to fail to attract buyers... and then
claim no buyers materialized? Dubai-owned & controlled DP World
knows that Congress and most Americans will have forgotten this
issue by then. After all the noise, there may very well be no
transfer. |

Update
3/13: -- Dubai's
governor Sultan
Nasser al-Suweidi spoke of the
stir from US lawmakers over
DP World's ports deal
saying, "Investors
are going to take this into consideration... They will look at
investment opportunities (in the US) through new binoculars." |
|
He
is correct. How wise of him to realize. |
|
Serious
global investors and Americans now see the US is starting to defend
and protect itself. US investments are now safer than they have been
in several years. |
|
Foreign
companies, governments, and private investors invest in the US only because there are good investments in the US. Often these
are amongst the safest, most reliable investments in the world.
Investing in the US is now safer. As always, it is more secure than
many others nations whose record of over-night asset theft through
nationalization often concerns investors. |
|
|
Update
3/10: -- Dubai has only
promised to transfer operational control to a separate entity. It
has not removed the possibility of someday taking back operational
control from that entity. And so
what? Would a competent business person trust Dubai to not renege on
a promise after seeing how they operated
throughout this
deal? Are there any competent business-oriented
negotiators in congress? Does only personal self-interest rule
congressmen? |
|
In questioning,
Dubai representatives said DP World
would "transfer"
the leases to manage some of the busiest US ports
to a still-unnamed American company.
DP World declined to say whether it
planned to sell the American operations or had some other
transaction in mind. |
|
|
Update
3/9: --
Sham! Specious Sham! Just as the US Congress
started passing legislation that would have killed the Dubai ports
deal -- as we anticipated -- the Dubai-owned and controlled company DP World
made its next announcement. Its orchestration was perfect. Speciously,
the company announcement was made by its American puppet Chief
Operating Officer Edward H. Bilkey. He issued a press release
perfectly timed to coincide with Senator John Warner's ability to
grandstand and read it on the Senate floor for maximum media
coverage. |
|
Bilkey's presentation is also designed to provide
slippery outs for senators and representatives who have grandstanded
over recent weeks demanding the deal be disallowed. It will be
allowed and the losers are Americans and the winners are American
politicians. |
|
Bilkey's
statement reads:
"Because of the strong relationship between the
United Arab Emirates and the United States and to preserve that
relationship, DP World has decided to transfer fully the U.S.
operation of P&O Operations North America to a United States entity." |
|
Bilkey failed
to identify details of the restructuring. It is a safe bet that
congressmen will give in as Dubai officials shuffle the shells in
this big-time shell game that is not a game. |
|
Americans must
watch the details and learn what sort of sham divestiture DP World
does with operation of the US ports in question. It will not
eliminate the potential security holes nor alleviate new burdens
placed upon US homeland security workers. |
|
|
The Issue:
Politicians are attempting to scare Americans into believing
foreigners may no longer invest in the US of A. Americans and their
so-called leaders need to understand that foreigners do not invest
in the US of A because they like Americans or because Americans are
nice to them. |
|
Foreign
companies, governments, and private investors invest in the US of A
only because there are good investments in the US of A. Often these
are amongst the safest, most reliable investments in the world. |
|

Update
3/4: --
California
Congressman Duncan Hunter, warning of Dubai's long record of passing
WMD components across the world, said, "To those who say my views
smack of protectionism, I say: America is worth protecting". |
|
The Deal:
February 28 -- The UAE is located at a strategically and tactically critical
juncture. The US Navy openly points to several hundred military
vessels that have ported in UAE waters over recent months. If that,
then imagine.... The UAE is a relatively reliable oil-producing
ally. Therefore, in the global picture, the DP World buyout of P&O
is a small deal. But it is a big deal to several UAE business
interests. And with so much publicity it is an even grander
global deal. US politicians will eventually relent. US politicians will not
allow UAE interests to suffer embarrassment by losing this highly
visible contest. |
|
Therefore this deal will
eventually be completed. DP World will operate port facilities in
the US. |
|
The Question:
Why should foreign-controlled company employees and officials of
foreign nations have direct knowledge and be privy to US Homeland
Security plans, safeguards, procedures, and defenses? |
|
|
Certainly the
US remains in charge and will perform its own security. But how
much more can our security forces do? Why should their task list
grow? Why open our doors further? Homeland Security will become our
largest industry. |

Update
3/2: -- Bill Clinton: Former president Bill Clinton
knows the UAE and top UAE officials know Bill Clinton well. Their
relationship is long and deep. The sheikdom contributed to the
Clinton Library and brought Clinton to Dubai in 2003 & 2005 were he
was reportedly paid $300,000 each for speaking engagements. |
|
Clinton
recently proposed to the UAE that his onetime press secretary, Joe
Lockhart, be hired as the Washington make-the-deal spokesman for UAE-owned
DP World. UAE officials did not hire Lockhart. |
|
However the
imagery of Bill working to slip the deal past Congress and the
American people while Hillary ostensibly rails against the deal is
typical of what Americans should expect. |
|
Americans can
only imagine -- If the former president Bill Clinton is promoting
and maneuvering this deal, imagine the kinds of deals he was doing
with the power and influence he wielded as president for eight
years. |
|
Other Democrats
working to slip this deal past Congress and the American people
include Carol Browner, former
Environmental Protection Agency chief under
Clinton now working as a principal
in the Albright Group lobbying firm. The Albright
Group is headed by former Secretary
of State under Clinton, Madeleine Albright.
Her company is representing DP World. |
|
Also pushing
the DP World port deal
is Jonathan Winer, a
top Democratic lobbyist. He spent
10 years as Senator John Kerry's aide.
Winer's associate at the Alston & Bird law firm
who also is supporting DP World is Kathryn Marks.
She was policy director for then Senator
John Edwards. Former Democratic Representative
Tom Downey, chairman of his own lobbying firm, is also
working on the
make-this- deal done team. |

Update
3/1: -- Boycotting Israel: The Jerusalem Post
reports that the Dubai-based company that owns DP World supports and
participates in the broad Arab boycott against Israel and its
products. When contacted by the Jerusalem Post, Muhammad Rashid
a-Din, a staff member of the Dubai Customs Department's Office for
the Boycott of Israel said, "Yes. of course the boycott is still in
place and is still enforced... If a product contained even some
components that were made in Israel, and you wanted to import it
into Dubai, it would be a problem". |
|
A-Din added
that the headquarters office for the anti-Israel boycott is in
Damascus, Syria. However his office and staff in Dubai are paid
employees of the Dubai Customs Department. This entity is a division
-- as is DP World -- of the same holding company which is
wholly-owned and controlled by the Dubai Emirate government. |
|
US law
prohibits companies from complying with requests or cooperating with
any Arab government's attempt to boycott Israel. |

Update
2/27: -- US Coast
Guard Report: Maine Republican Senator
Susan Collins,
head of the Senate Homeland Security
and Governmental Affairs Committee, said a
US Coast Guard report
raised "red flags"
concerning terminal
management takeover at six US ports by Dubai Ports World
which is owned and controlled by
Dubai of the United Arab Emirates. |
|
Collins
interviewed US Coast Guard officials in closed session. She said
information obtained demonstrates that the White House should have
extended its initial review and will have to now probe further. The
Bush administration has agreed to reopen the analysis. |
|
Collins
added, "There are issues in that [Coast
Guard]document that warrant further investigation, but I am
convinced that will in fact occur during the 45-day review". |
|
The Coast
Guard report was written in December,
2005. It states, "There are many
intelligence gaps, concerning the potential for DPW or P&O assets to
support terrorist operations, that precludes an overall threat
assessment of the potential DPW and P&O Ports merger".
It also states, "The breadth of the intelligence gaps also
infer potential unknown threats against a large number of potential
vulnerabilities". |

Update
2/25: OOPS...
-- DP World executive Michael Moore said the company will agree to
tighter security controls to win congressional backing only if the
same restrictions apply to all US port operators. DP World had two
days ago been more conciliatory. At that time it said it would do whatever
Bush asked in order to save the deal. |
|
DP
World senior vice president Michael Moore today said, "Security is
everybody's business... We're going to have a very open mind to
legitimate concerns. But anything we can do, any way to improve
security, should apply to everybody equally." |
|
It
took only two days for DP World to start sliding out of its promise. |
|
|
Stephen Hadley, Bush's national security advisor, said there is no
way to stop the deal. Some Americans say, "Oh yes there is. Oh
yes we can! Just
pretend we are Middle Eastern also and say, 'No, we do not
accept this deal.'" |
|
Update
2/24:
Clever Tactical Maneuver By
DP World.
The Dubai-controlled company said it would delay the US portion of
the deal making
special arrangements for the US ports involved while
discussing security concerns.
This clever tactical maneuver
allows DP World to take absolute control of the major portion of
P&O. It leaves P&O's old owners in a vague position, thus
strengthening DP World's full takeover position. |
|
Most meaningfully, DP World's
clever tactic allows time to pass during obfuscation and
phony-baloney security talks. Congressmen will get further confused,
less involved, and will likely eventually let the issue and deal
pass. New Jersey filed a court suit seeking to prevent DP World from
taking over its ports. Predictably talks will start, procedures will
be agreed to, politicians will surrender, and the special interest
deal will pass. |
|
The Point:
Dubai-controlled DP World will be a natural
open door for fanatic terrorists to seek employment. At some point
in the future, some, though not all, will be hired. They will have
access to US security plans & procedures. They will have access to
containers and ships heading directly into US ports. They will be
able to plant chemical, nuclear, biological material on these ships. |
|
|
Update 2/23:
President
Bush insulted the British by rhetorically asking Americans, why should a UAE-controlled
company be treated differently than a British-based company? |
|
Learn about UAE. Visit:

|
Update 2/21:
Bush told reporters, "After careful
review by our government, I believe the transaction ought to go
forward... I want those who are
questioning it to step up and explain why all of a sudden a Middle
Eastern company is held to a different standard than a Great British
company. I am trying to conduct foreign policy now by saying to the
people of the world, 'We'll treat you
fairly.'" Bush could ask
any American since 9/11 why Middle Eastern nations must be held to a
different standard. They operate by different standards with goals
that include suicide and destruction of the US. They need a standard
that is different from Britain. That is fair treatment! |
|
This issue is
President G. W. Bush's rendition of his father's infamous "Read my
lips" I won't raise taxes statement. It will likely have similar
political ramifications. The Democrat's incessant barking and annoying of this
president forced him to take a bunker mentality. He appears unable
to see clearly on this issue -- past the special interest, promised
dealings. |
|
Why is
President Bush fighting so hard to win this issue? Why has he
surrendered on Social Security reform and health care reform and
immigration reform? |
|
Perhaps the
president's advisors might find other ways to "link up" with our
Middle East friends. Perhaps we could buy their oil. |
|
|
The US of A has been built through the sacrifices of millions of
men and women for over 200 years. |
|
No American should allow
anyone to damage the USA in any manner whatsoever without waging a
damn good fight. |
|
Approval of this deal will provide
a Dubai-controlled company access to US Homeland Security port and
shipping procedures, controls and defense plans. |
|
|
Approval has been granted by a
Bush committee operating in secrecy for the UAE-controlled company
DP World to take over ownership of the British port operations
company P&O. With ownership is transferred control and operation of
contractual agreements. Some contracts will provide this
Dubai-government controlled company license to operate loading and unloading
in six major US ports. |
|
At the lowest level, US union
workers will do the actual work in US ports. In ports around the
world unknown workers of unknown sorts will be loading shipping
containers that will arrive silently in US ports, be unloaded and
transported by rail and truck throughout the US. It is not relevant
that US union workers will be handling this potentially nefarious
cargo of unlimited purposes. Imagine future employees of this
Dubai company. Fanatical terrorists will understand that they can
get a job with DP World. Then they may position themselves to place
biohazard, chemical, nuclear materials into containers. Then they
may sail with those materials or arrange for their compatriots to
accept the materials in a US port or at any destination in the US. |
|
Some
of the 9/11 hijackers used the UAE as an operational and financial
base. The UAE was an important transfer
point for shipments of smuggled nuclear components sent to Iran,
North Korea and Libya by a Pakistani scientist. |
|
Since 9/11, one
of the commonly acknowledged serious and large gaps in US security relates
to its ports, commercial ship controls and shipping containers that cannot
-- even more than four years after 9/11 -- be
adequately inspected! |
|
President Bush attempted to place
the insultingly inadequate Harriet Miers on the US Supreme Court.
Why? Within days of President Bush's appointment she was shown to be
thoroughly inadequate and worse, not nearly adequately prepared or
skilled. Within weeks President Bush found Judge Samuel Alito.
Immediately Alito was acknowledged even by unsupportive experts to
be eminently qualified. But why had he been passed over for Harriet
Miers? What went on behind the scene? |
|
President Bush has put himself on
the line and obviously committed his life to defending the USA in
the war against terrorism, WWIII. Mr. Bush will quite possibly be in
danger for the rest of his life for having taken this courageous
position. All civilized people owe Mr. Bush for his sacrifice... and
all should appreciate the gravity of his sacrifice. |
|
President Bush must understand
that allowing the Dubai-controlled company DP World to operate US
ports will be a threat to national security. Obviously Dubai
government officials, company owners, executives and many workers
are committed to
defeating, or at minimum, humbling the
USA. |
|
President Bush maintains the US
must develop independent, secure energy sources as soon as possible.
He publicly bemoans our dependence on middle Eastern nations for
much of our oil. |
|
President Bush's allowing this
transaction to proceed after a secretive review can only be
explained by some sort of short-sighted rational. But why? What is
going on behind the scene? |
|
President Bush has sent and
continues to send America's finest young people around the world to
defend and wage pre-emptive strikes to protect the US homeland. |
|
President Bush has the temerity to
use the finest Americans who thoroughly trust him to defend the US,
yet he is opening US ports to potential terrorists. This
Dubai-controlled company is without question now, or soon would be,
infiltrated with fanatics dedicated to destroying the USA. It will
be a very desired employer for future terrorists. Those fanatical
terrorists are
dedicated to undoing all the progress made by so many sacrifices of
America's finest young people. |
|
President Bush, what is really
going on here? Are some Dubai officials long-time friends of George
Bush, Sr.? Is it possible that you could do a business deal
justified by old-time contacts? Is it possible that you could
disregard America's finest young people's sacrifices? Is it possible
you could disregard the long-term safety of the United States of
America to do a business deal? |
|
President Bush's opinion on this
matter is not nearly as
sacrosanct as the United States of America. |
|
President Bush, the word is "nuc-lear".
The word is not "nuc-u-lar". Apparently no one else will help you
with that detail either -- not your mother, wife, children, top
advisors, nor even your father. Be wise enough to learn. A word as
important as nuclear cannot be mispronounced in a silly manner for
years by the president of the United States of America. |
|
President Bush, neither can a
Dubai government-controlled company be permitted to pass in and out
of US ports carrying anything it wants to at anytime because it has
access to US security controls and procedures. Stop this insidious
and specious deal. |
|
