Reaction: "Suddenly I feel older."
Reaction: "I now
understand that those terrorist people believe we have no value whatsoever. They
believe they gain value by destroying our way of life. The way they gain self-worth
is to kill as many of us as possible."
Reaction: "I've heard
from old friends who haven't contacted me for a long time."
Reaction: "In a
strange way I feel less rushed and in less of a hurry to do things. It's not that I
want to put them off or not do them, it's just that I feel they can wait until I am ready
to do them."
Reaction: "The future
of civilized world is being carried on the shoulders of a few thousand Special Operations
forces."
Reaction: "I'm
worried about the troops fighting but I know it has to be done. I don't know what I
would do if I were young enough to enlist and fight."
Reaction: "Have you
noticed that people in stores and strangers on crowded streets seem more polite as they
move about? Do people seem to smile a little in crowds as we all bump into each
other crossing a street or shopping?"
Reaction: "I think
people are even more rushed while trying to get around than before the attacks."
Reaction: "My son
asked me if things will ever return to normal. I told him a new normalcy will evolve
and we should accept that fact. We will adapt and civilization will continue to make
progress. This is not the worst event in mankind's history. We will be
fortunate if this actually is the worst thing to happen to the civilized world."
Reaction: "Some
people I have worked with for a long time are suddenly more friendly and a little bit more
cooperative."
Reaction: "Do you
feel lonesome and a desire to seek out old acquaintances?"
Reaction: "The future
of civilization rests on the shoulders of several thousand dedicated special operations
forces of the United States military."
Reaction: "So what if
they want to live in caves and make women cover themselves head to toe in sacks? They
should leave the rest of us alone to live like we want to!"
Reaction: "Patriotism
is really stronger. Even my teenage kids are talking about it!"
Reaction: "I feel
more apprehensive than ever before in my 62 years."
Reaction: "I hope the
friendliness I sense lasts more than a few weeks. I don't think it will go away
after the main shock of the attacks decrease, do you?"
Reaction: "I don't
see why we can't just talk and use the UN to deal with the attacks and terrorism in
general." |
